Kimiyá

The name Kimiyá comes from the Arabian word – ‘Alchimia’ – a magical power that can turn a common substance into one of great value! Perfectly named, this super apartment that looks out across the rooftops of the beautiful town of Modica is located in the maze of narrow streets that make up Modica Alta and the 200-metre walk from where you leave the car to the accommodation is well worth the trouble.

Kimiyá has a really special feel as soon as you enter the apartment. A few steps up take you from the narrow street into the charming and stylish lounge area with a comfy sofa, bookcase brimming with art and cultural books, TV, stereo and a little balcony with the most amazing views over the town. The open plan kitchen has everything needed to stay put in this beautiful oasis – fridge, hob and oven – and we are sure that many alfresco meals will be enjoyed right here with stunning Modica as a backdrop. The thoughtful owner always makes sure that there is a choice of local wines available in the kitchen and there are various food merchants that drive along the streets in the morning in their 3-wheelers selling their wares – the baker and the greengrocer being two of many – certainly beats supermarket shopping!

On the same level as the lounge, there is one pretty bedroom with striking wooden beams in the roof, a big iron bed with an amazing headboard made up of a mixture of typical Sicilian ceramic tiles, crisp white linen and a bathroom. Accessed by an old stone staircase, the second and truly romantic bedroom, complete with bathroom, has windows looking out on to the streets below and access to the roof terrace where you may choose to marvel at the view, sunbathe or enjoy an aperitivo as day becomes night and the town below begins to twinkle.

With such chic and comfortable accommodation, we know that you will enjoy returning to this little haven of peace and tranquillity after a day of visiting some of the stunning nearby towns and coastline. However, you could not be blamed for not getting out quite as much as you planned as once you open a bottle of cool wine and see the view you may be tempted just to stay put in the heart of Modica!
