Masseria Potenti

Masseria Potenti is a charming boutique hotel set amidst olive groves in the glorious Salento. The impressive 16th-century farmhouse has been carefully renovated keeping all the original features and the simple but totally charming furnishings make the accommodation an oasis of chic charm.

Sitting alone in the countryside, Masseria Potenti is located midway between the towns of Manduria and Avetrana. The entrance takes you into a huge courtyard bordered with typical whitewashed buildings, terraces shaded by floaty white curtains blowing in the breeze and a total sense of peace and calm.

The 18 rooms are dotted around the Masseria and each one is different in its layout, size and decor. The only feature that remains constant is the white paint enhancing the wonderful Salento natural light thus ensuring that all the accommodation is light and airy. The rooms all have their own original fireplace and their own terrace or patio looking out onto the gardens full of fruit trees and colourful flowers.

The food at Masseria Potenti is simple, keeping the traditional theme at all times. The lovely owner, Maria Grazia is often found cooking for her guests to ensure that they taste some of the wonderful dishes local to this area that she was brought up on. You may choose to eat in one of the super dining rooms but will probably opt to eat on the shady terrace overlooking the beautiful gardens the dining experience is very informal and friendly. All the fare is home-made including some mouth-watering cakes, pastries and bread, the seasonal vegetables and fruits come straight from the gardens and the delicious wine is, of course, made at the Masseria.

The pretty swimming pool is set in a walled garden and is the perfect place to while away a couple of hours in the hot Pugliese sunshine note that should you wish to sample one of the beautiful beaches in the area, the Ionian coast is only 5km away.

Guests at Masseria Potenti may spend their time simply enjoying the splendid surroundings or taking part in some of the low-key classes on offer Mediterranean cookery including bread, pasta and taralli, yoga, Ayurveda massages and tailor-made trips to hidden secrets in the area.

Should you be able to tear yourself away from the Masseria, there are many beautiful historic towns to visit such as Lecce, Gallipoli and Taranto along with the nature reserves of Salina dei Monaci and Palude del Conte.
