Hotel Su Gologone

Sardinia is best known for its beautiful coastline, crystal-clear turquoise sea and glorious beaches, but the interior of the island should not be ignored, it's untouched and wild natural beauty has to be seen to be appreciated. Spectacular granite mountains, forests, caves and natural springs surround Su Gologone, perfect for a few days either before or after hitting the coastline.

Su Gologone is unique as a country hotel. It started out as a superb local restaurant serving traditional cuisine - home-made pasta with fresh sauces, locally produced vegetables and delicious roast meats cooked on an open fire in the restaurant. With the quality of the food and wine being so good, many of the diners would find it difficult to leave, so a few rooms were built, and the hotel was born.

Taking its name from the natural spring just a few minutes walk from the entrance, the hotel sits at the foot of the impressive Gennargentu (The Silver Gate) massif mountain range and just a 25-minute drive to the closest beach at Cala Gonone. Comfort and relaxation are the keywords here and the beautiful rooms decorated with antique furniture all have stunning views across the countryside. The corridors of the hotel boast a fine collection of paintings, and the small library has many books covering local history and art.

This stylish hotel offers an excellent range of activities: play some tennis or mini golf, try out the jacuzzi and small gym, book yourself a soothing massage, enjoy a yoga or reiki class, take a jeep excursion and do some trekking. Should relaxation be high on the list then can choose to simply relax and forget the outside world by the wonderful swimming pool and later, lose yourself to the night-time skies on the ‘Star Gazing Terrace of Dreams’.

Su Gologone has some super features including a fabulous cactus garden with hammocks to snooze in along with a herbal garden where you may enjoy a light lunch or simply pick your own personal choice of herbs and make a delicious infusion. Should you wish to learn some of the local traditional arts, join in one of the classes of embroidery, sewing, the study of local fabrics, pottery and painting - you may go home with a Sardinian masterpiece!

Once rejuvenated, there are many local wonders to visit including one of the many archeological sites in the area, the wine-producing town of Dorgali, the spectacular caves of Ispinigoli (with the most enormous stalagmites and stalactites), the amazing Gorruppu gorge, the Nuraghic village of Tiscali, the pretty little seaside town of Cala Gonone... the list is never-ending.
